What is a Public Notary?
A Notary Public is an official of integrity appointed by state government to serve the public as an impartial witness to the signing of important documents and verify the identity of the signers.

Acknowledgement: An acknowledgment is typically performed on documents controlling or conveying ownership of valuable assets. Such documents include real property deeds, powers of attorney and trusts. Cost: $5
Jurat: A jurat is typically performed on evidentiary documents that are critical to the operation of our civil and criminal justice system. Such documents include affidavits, depositions and interrogatories. Cost: $5
Certified Copies: A copy certification is performed to confirm that a reproduction of an original document is true, exact and complete. Such originals might include college degrees, passports, etc., which the holder must submit for some purpose. Cost: $5
What's Needed for Notarization?
The signer of the document is 18 years of age with an unexpired ID*.
The signer is awake and coherent to sign the documents.
Make sure that if your document(s) require witnesses you have them available, must be at least 18 years old, and have valid ID.
*Acceptable forms of identification by the state of Virginia:
State issued driver's license/identification card, United States Passport, United States Military ID, Certificate of US Citizenship, Alien Registration Card with Photo, Unexpired Foreign Passport.*
